Professor Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, PhD – a life dedicated to healthy eating

Professor Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, PhD , director of the Institute for Food Research, is an active personality in the food domain; he has participated in numerous national and international congresses, as well as training courses at leading institutes abroad.

Professor Gheorghe Mencinicopschi graduated from the Faculty of Biology – Biochemistry in Bucharest, as valedictorian; his doctoral dissertation was in Enzymology.

His multiple specializations in molecular biology, genetic engineering, biotechnology, food design, food safety, human nutrition, diet prevention, make him into a powerful voice that advocates for a healthy diet.

Professor Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, PhD  has written specialized papers on subject matters such as food, nutrition, human nutrition, biotechnology; he has published over three hundred scientific papers in the country and abroad. He has developed the concept of “informational quality” of the food matrix (this concept was elaborated on at the International Congress for Nutrition held in Dubna in 2007 and in Krakow in 2008).

He holds over twenty patents. He is a member of the Academy of Scientists from Romania, of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, of the New York Academy of Sciences, of the Scientific Council of National Sanitary Veterinary Authority and of Food Safety (ANSVSA); he is the Chairman of the Commission for Biosafety of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Professor Mencinicopschi is the award winning „Emil Teodorescu” of Romanian Academy (1980), the National Order „Faithful Service in the rank of Knight” (2000) and named Doctor Honoris Causa of USAMVB – Timisoara, Order Nr. 57/28 May 2009. He is quoted in the Encyclopedia of Romanian personalities and in the Dictionary of the Romanian experts „WHO IS WHO” Romania, „WHO IS WHO” in Balkan’s.
